## What International Trade covers

-   ### Import activity
    
    Whether the business has recorded imports, with the main and secondary categories it imports in.
    
-   ### Export activity
    
    The same on the export side, held separately so importers and exporters can be selected apart.
    
-   ### Breadth of trade
    
    The number of distinct trade categories recorded, which separates a business trading one line from one trading many.
    
-   ### Recency and duration
    
    Months with recorded activity and the latest month covered by the summary, so dormant records can be told from active ones.

## Sources and maintenance

    Licensed datasets summarising recorded UK import and export activity.

    Trade activity is matched to the business record and summarised into categories, months active and a latest covered month.

    Summaries are rebuilt as new activity is processed, and the latest covered month is carried so recency is visible.
